ASSISTED HUMANITARIAN VOLUNTARY RETURN

You are a citizen of a country outside the European Union and European Economic Area, your right to stay in Romania has expired, you entered illegally or were an asylum seeker and do not have means to return to your country of origin?

Romanian authorities offer an alternative to forced removal from the Romanian territory. Thus, you can sign in the assisted voluntary repatriation program organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – the Representative Office in Romania, in collaboration with the Romanian Government.

Who can benefit from this program?

Beneficiaries of this program may be, according to Article 1 paragraph 4 of Law 374/2003, the following persons:

a) persons whose applications for refugee status were finally and irrevocably rejected by the Romanian competent authorities

b) asylum seekers who have given up the procedure for the granting of refugee status or foreign nationals who have given up another form of protection previously granted under the Law on the status of refugees in Romania

c) other persons required to leave by the competent authorities in Romania as a result of an administrative decision or for which there are conditions of issue of such decisions.

You do not benefit from this program!

If you are a citizen of a non EU / EEA and against you the courts have ordered safety measures of expulsion, if you have been declared persona non grata in Romania or if you have previously benefited from this program, you can no longer sign up for assisted voluntary humanitarian repatriation.

What are the advantages of this program?​

As a beneficiary of this program you enjoy a number of facilities. These are:​

a) you can pick one place and time of departure, in a reasonable time and in line with the IOM representative in Romania (under art. 2, paragraph 3 of Law 374/2003)
b) you will not be escorted and surrendered to the authorities in the home country
c) no mentions of removal will be applied on your travel documents, and the authorities of the country of origin will not be notified of your return
d) prohibition of entry in Romania could be halved in cases provided by law.
